Hawgs Wheels recently introduced two Fatties with a glossy, slick finish, as opposed to the typical scrubbed finish. The gloss wheels feature a sticky, tacky rolling surface, which is removed during the scrubbing process. The gloss versions provide better grip out of the box, making them more suitable for hard carves. However, once the gloss layer is worn down, they perform identically to the scrubbed wheels. The primary reason most wheels come scrubbed is to eliminate the need for a break-in period, as the sliding of glossy wheels can be challenging and sometimes result in flatspots.
